Down sizing went a different direction for us when we moved to a restricted age community some 10 years ago after having lived in the house we built and lived in for 38 years.

I wanted a basement and a golf course lot. My wife wanted no basement and is not a golfer. We compromised, no basement, no golf course lot BUT, we got a larger house. I like space. So far, so good.

There may come a time when we move to a campus of independent, assisted and long term care... not ready for that just yet, I love my yard and flower gardens.

Who knows what the future holds for any of us?

I would hate to make a decision when our backs are against the wall mentally or physically which often happens!

For now, I think I hear that golf course calling!

Downsizing

Hi Wendy,

It sounds like you love your house! How about if you do a big declutter and stay where you are? If and when you need to move your house will already be decluttered and you will just need to move your essentials.

We already live in a small house. It’s just the right size now but was crazy crowded when the seven of us lived here! Our kids and my husband and I are all pretty close now and maybe that’s because we were all pretty close (crowded haha) as they were growing up.

I can’t imagine leaving my home right now. I suppose some day I will have to but in the meantime I just keep trying to get rid of all the extra stuff to make it easier for my kids when we go.

Just take your time with whatever you decide.

I LOVE my home -- especially seated in my recliner in the den, looking out the back picture window -- greenery galore. Love my perennial gardens, veggie gardens and all the trees.

My fear is that my husband, at some point, won't be able to do the yard... and yes, I could hire someone.

BUT if we don't downsize now, will we be able later?

I know I think tooo much!
