Life After Divorce

My husband retired at 60 as I did, then he left me after 38 years marriage.

I was hoping we were going to travel more as the children had left home.

It took me six months to get myself to go out and meet people. My sister made me join clubs, also go on holiday.

I also moved to a smaller house, after we got divorced, which was new and never wanted any work. It has a small garden which I've had astra turfed, also car spaces to park on the road. I joined other clubs who I go on day trips with also dining out which I enjoy.

I also did a computer course. I've made several friends online to send jokes to and I do online shopping now... also doing the family tree.

I went on a few cruises with my sister, who has passed away now, and took my eldest daughter to canada. I would love to go away again but not on my own.

If I get lonely, I phone my ex workmates and friends up.

supergirl and I have a wonderful retirement, we do what we want when we want and enjoy life.....we have more money in retirement than when I was working but one thing I learned was when I kick the bucket 2/3 almost of our monies go away...she was a wonderful wife and stay at home mother....I have become Hardware-man for a few years working part time and socking the monies away for her....

Dear Joyce:

What I find most interesting is that when we find ourselves living on our own- whether widowed or divorced- is that "we can do whatever we want whenever we want to."

For me this was a luxury I had never had before and every day is a new adventure, depending on where my imagination or desire takes me.

Having family or friends to connect with is important. And taking care of a house and property can be time consuming, but in your case, you seem to be doing all the right things.
