I decided to retire because I had enough credits and wanted to try some other things.
It was voluntary and I thought the retirement benefit would be enough to maintain a reasonable standard of living.
I had been planning for some time and actually worked for a longer period than I originally thought that I would.
I worked at this particular job for seventeen years. I had other retirement credits for other jobs. I worked in a business office in a large agency.
The small retirement party was held the day before my last day. There was some really good food there and a few of the coworkers showed up.
On the last day of work, I worked until noon. I had vacation time to use up, so I only worked for half of the day. I said some quick good byes to the other staffers and headed out the door.
When I got home, I worked on packing up to move and continued to do this for another couple of days. I also had a sense of calmness and relaxed mood because some burdens had been lifted.
