Social Security - How many years do they use?

How is social security based on... I heard it was the last 5 years you work, then i heard it was the best 5 years . can you give me some info please?

Wendy's Reply: Social Security uses 35 years wages! That's a lot of work. If you only work 16 years or 30 years, your average wages uses $-0- for all those unworked years... yikes
