I had a mentor. Larry is his name. He lives down the block and asked me if I planned to retire (he is a little older than I and already retired.) Here is what he told me:
1 - Make sure you have a plan. Figure out what you are going to do after you retire BEFORE YOU RETIRE! Plan something that will make you feel needed and viable.
2 - If you think you have enough money to retire on, you probably do. Don't overthink it. You find ways to spend less and when you are a "senior" there are heaps of discounts if you look for them.
3 - If you have enough to retire - build your plan and when you have your plan, PULL THE TRIGGER. No one wishes they worked more in their life. They always wish they spent more of the years when they were able to get around - getting around.
4 - Keep updating your plan. Keep looking for new things to do, busy people need to stay busy or they stop being people and start being plant food.
5 - This one is mine - I figured out what I want to do when I retire and then I started figuring out how to make money at it. I found that I can make a little money, not a lot - but I will be doing what I want to do, not what I have to do.
My overall plan is - i hate my job now so if things don't work out, I can always go back to work at another job. Even if I don't like that one, I will be no worse off.
Seek out retired people and senior citizens like Larry that will help you to understand what retirement is, is not and how to make it the best it can be - before you retire!!!
Good luck!
